These are the tapes which were formerly kept in the archive of the Mission School in Oegstgeest. In 1999 the school and institute was closed and moved to Utrecht. The archive had already been moved earlier, first temporarily to Leusden and then further to Utrecht, where they became part of the PKN archive. Because of a flooding in the archive of the PKN or because of the move, the original tapes were lost. The same also happened with the DAT-tapes copies that were made of it, but fortunately the cassette copies survived. They were digitized by PACE before the cassettes were moved together with the rest of the audio archive to the PKN collections in the Utrecht Archives.

Cassette A
The tape is part of the Freerk Kamma collection. It is a Sony HF90 cassette in the same brand box. On the A side is a copy of Tape 1 A and Tape 1 B of the Oegstgeest Freek Kamma collection. It has recordings from Biak, Genjem, Tobati, Vanimo and Radja Ampat. From Biak and its wider influence area there are the styles Randan, Munabai and Kajob. Most songs are with tifa accompaniment but also a wood block, arrow and bow as a percussion instrument are used. At 14’30 we hear Freerk Kamma with a short interview in Bahasa about the Guay, at 28’04 the announcement of a song in the Biak language from the Radja Ampat islands in Randan style; 31’14 the announcement of music from the Humboldt Bay, 33’56 the announcement of Kayob and Munabai. On side B is a copy of Tape 2 A and 2 B with recordings from the Joka Choir, songs in Biak style on the occasion of Kamma’s goodbye in Kota Radja, Hollandia, and some more choir songs. It starts with Dari ombak besar; it could be from another recording but what follows are live recordings of the Joka choir. There is some distortion and it ends with a speech in Bahasa; at 20’45 the songs with tifa in Biak style start; 27’07 choir songs.

The tape is part of the Freerk Kamma collection. It is a Sony HF90 cassette in the same brand box. On the A side of the cassette is a copy of Tape 3 A and Tape 3 B of the Oegstgeest Freerk Kamma collection, Lagu suku moi (Sorong), no. I and on the B side of the cassette is copy of Tape 4 A and Tape 4 B of the Oegstgeest Freerk Kamma collection, Lagu suku moi (Sorong), no. II. They are recordings of Moi traditional songs by Freerk Kamma in and around Sorong. They are basically vocal songs. At the start is a song with a rare syncopic rhythm. At 3’09 is a song with hand clapping. At 5’56 is an excerpt of classical music followed by a song with also a rare rhythm. At 7’32 Freerk Kamma announces the victory song of the bird Toksarum. At 9’54 is a group song with long tones and at the end an excerpt of classical music. At 12’50 another group song with long tones, at 14’47 another group song with long tones. At 16’50 starts Tape 3 B with a song accompanied by clapping sticks, at 20’35 is a solo male song with a strong hum. At 22’50 is a song by women, at 28’20 is a solo male song. They are recordings of Moi traditional songs by Freerk Kamma at the Leprosery and Remu. It starts with a male solo song, at 3’00 this is followed by a group song, at 5’25 an announcement of Freerk Kamma recording of the Moi Papua, probably at the Leprosery, followed by a group song with a syncopic rhythm, at 6’29 an excerpt of another song, at 6’31 an excerpt of classical music and at 6’33 another group song with syncopic rhythm, at 7’26 another rhythmic song, at 8’05 another rhythmic song. 12’07 an announcement of Freerk Kamma: Moi songs recorded at the Jesus Jes at Ramu, 12’12 a group song with long tones, distortion, 14’14 a group song with tifa accompaniment, distortion, cut off. 15’42 announcement by Freerk Kamma: Second song of the Kanikla or fishing, the attack, the fishing itself and at the end the return. On the A side of the cassette is a copy of Tape 14 A and Tape 14 B Lagu Ilaga (rekaman Larson), recorded in the Ilaga valley by Gordon Larson and by his colleague CAMA missionary John Ellenberger. The last part of Tape 14 B is recorded by Freerk Kamma. On the B side is a copy of Tape 17 A and Tape 17 B, Lagu2 Biak and a radio lecture by Freerk Kamma. The tape is part of the Freerk Kamma collection. It is a Sony HF90 cassette in the same brand box. On side A of the cassette was the continuation of Tape 19 A; the beginning of Tape 19 A was on Band 143. This part has been edited on the file for convenience. On side B of the cassette was a copy of Tape 19 B. Both sides were part of a documentary about the pottery industries of West Irian, Seni music di Kurudu, by Jane and Gerald Hebdige during a 2-day visit in July 1971 to the island of Kurudu.
Side A starts with the introduction followed by talking and interviews, from time to time there are some songs, mostly solo. Side B has talking, some songs: 32’39 – 38’31 and 41’58 – 45’02 string band songs, live performance.
